When Fr. Peregrine Fletcher, O. Praem. sent our family a complimentary preview copy of “The Snail and the King,” we immediately fell in love with it! The book’s official release is March 19, and you can pre-order now to get it in time for Easter.

And, while there are countless parent influencers on social media who make money off affiliate links and ads, I am not getting paid to tell you, parent to parent, that this book is a gem, and makes a perfect gift for your kids’ Easter baskets – or for birthdays – or baptisms – or rainy days – or bedtime stories – or just because.

You see, it’s been a mission of mine to find truly GREAT books for our kids – ones with enticing illustrations, lovable characters, perennial wisdom, and themes that kids can apply in their own lives.

“The Snail and the King” does that and more, because it also shares prominently the Holy Trinity, through the characters (the King, the Prince, and the Dove) and their roles in the story and in real life.

It connects with kids who feel they’re too small to be included in certain events – admittedly, a struggle our 3-year-old has with activities our kindergartener and second grader get to do.

It highlights the power of the Holy Spirit working in our lives, guiding us toward heaven.

It speaks clearly about what happens when we try to do things on our own.

And it’s got the most clever rhymes, the cadence of which usher the reader along the quest of an insignificant little snail, who answers the Prince’s invitation for all the creatures of the kingdom to live in the King’s home. To get there, the creatures must make a long and daunting journey. Will this small, shelled gastropod succeed? What about the greater creatures? What is the King’s home like?

I won’t spoil the story for you, but I WILL say, it’s a book you’ll want to read again and again.

Again, the official release is March 19, but you can order now to have it ready for Easter.

Thank you, Fr. Peregrine, for enriching our lives with this beautiful book!

Peace,
Debbie

P.S. Fr. Peregrine has another great book for kids too – “Saint Philomena” also is available via EWTN Religious Catalogue. He gave us a complimentary review copy, and we’ve already purchased multiple copies for friends’ families.
