“It’s just become a habit in our life, no matter what.”
That’s what Jon Leonetti, host of The Catholic Morning Show on Iowa Catholic Radio, said about the importance of family prayer in his home. Way to go, Jon!
Jon also has three children and KNOWS what it’s like to be a tired Catholic parent. He also knows how crucial it is to raise holy kids. I appreciated his input on having a routine for prayer, nurturing healthy habits of prayer (which is great for kids!), and turning to the saints for intercession.
Perhaps that’s the greatest takeaway from this interview – we’ve got to make a plan for how we’re going to make God a priority in our lives. We have to put ourselves in a position to receive God’s graces. We’ve got to teach our children to pray without ceasing – or it’s going to be a lot harder for them to figure it out on their own.
I also really enjoyed talking about some of our favorite saint reflections and prayers – “St. Therese of Lisieux and the Prayer of a Parent During a Child’s Tantrum;” “Sts. Louis and Zelie Martin and a Prayer for Homemakers and Work-from-Home Parents;” and the universally useful “St. Lawrence and a Prayer when Everything is Going Up in Flames.”
